Theresian broadcasters bag awards in BMOPC Radio Broadcasting Comp

Some say long distance relationships do not work, while Scriveners prove it otherwise.

Despite not having face-to-face interaction with each other, broadcasters of Scrivener's Posts have successfully changed the norms in radio script writing and broadcasting contest.

They have bagged numerous awards during the Batang Mamamahayag Online Press Conference (BMOPC), a nationwide competition for young journalists, last September 25.

Phoenix Patrol, the English radio broadcasting team, garnered 1st place in Best Radio Production, together with group and individual awards during the semi-finals round.

They are composed of Grade 10 and 12 students, having Ma. Victoria Nicole as female anchor; Raegohn Natividad and Chocolate Ann II Dionglay as news presenters; James Lawrence Banaag as scriptwriter; and Alessandra Jodi Lantin as the technical director.

On the other hand, Paspas Balita, the Filipino broadcasting team, also won as the 2nd Best Radio Production with other distinctions for the group and individual awards.

Their team consists of senior high school students with John Michael Dellova and Irish Bienca Dela Cruz as anchors; John Andrie Zaguirre, Jerry Mhie Jabilles, John Cedrick Delloba, and Maria Eurice Mendoza as news presenters.

"It was quite difficult to come up with a radio production at these trying times kasi nga (because) we are far from each other. Medyo nakakapanibago (It feels different) since we need to produce it by recording, compared to the actual contest when we simulate it live," James Lawrence Banaag said in an interview.

He also added that despite those things, they were able to become victors during the said contest.

The broadcasters also gained numerous awards during the preliminary activities which aim to help them hone their crafts.

Both teams are joined with broadcasters from other schools -- Jedryc Romero, Andrea Ysabelle Suarez, and Jem Baldo.

They are set to push through the final round this week.

BMOPC is an online nationwide competition for young journalists which sparked during the lockdown period.
